clioshiddenportraits:Hatshepsut was born in the late 16th or early 15th century BC and managed to rise to the, until then, male-only title of pharaoh. In the throne she invested in the relationship with neighbors, therefore her 22 years in command turned into the most peaceful and rich in a long time, opening the path to the peak of the 18th dynasty. Her legacy is so big that the proofs of her tenure persisted yet many attempts to write her off history, beginning with the following sovereign.Neferure was her only child and received an uncommon education, being so well prepared some historians believe she was nurtured to take the throne after her mother. That’s a reason could explain the erasure of Hatshepsut from history, to not let the idea of female rulers take over the tradition of the hereditary male pharaoh. Although not uncommon, female rulers in Egypt were mostly widow queens acting as regents to their sons, being closely advised in their task, until being replaced. Hatshepsut herself was represented with male features and clothes. There are articles about Hatshepsut all over the internet, here is a documentary from Discovery Channel showing the find and analysis of her mummy and other informations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUM0cmkPWQ0 So… this post on my other tumblr (for women historical stuff) got featured on the History (official?) tag of Tumblr. Unexpected and cool. =) -- source link
