thejewishmuseum:Passover begins tonight at sundown, the weeklong holiday commemorating the the liberation of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt, as told in the Book of Exodus. On the first seder, or ritual meal, Jews read from the Haggadah, a compilation of stories, prayers and hymns, and are commanded to eat and discuss symbolic foods. The centerpiece of the table is the seder plate (Pictured: Kerry Feldman’s 1988 pictograph seder plate in the Jewish Museum collection.) By participating in this ceremony, Jews re-experience the Exodus from Egypt and reflect on its significance for their own lives and present circumstances. In observance of Passover, the Jewish Museum will close today at 2 pm and reopen on Thursday, April 13. Russ & Daughters at the Jewish Museum will be closed April 10-18. -- source link
