whaatnext:وجدة (wadjda) (2013) (trailer)An enterprising Saudi girl signs on for her school’s Koran recitation competition as a way to raise the remaining funds she needs in order to buy the green bicycle that has captured her interest.i remember watching this film’s trailer and having this great urge to watch it (it’s a damn good trailer). many of you would be sick of the buzz this film is getting, but this is for everyone else. first things first, i was never the biggest fan of arabic films, mostly because they most of them felt the same (except for old films, those were good). they all have the same message, with the same actors, with the same vimto-color blood, same jokes (that aren’t even funny) and same music. you don’t see a lot of creativity and it’s really sad (if you don’t agree with this, please recommend good films). even though i hate films that cram all social and political issues in one film/show, wadjda did it so smoothly and smartly. with the right proportions of humor, drama, cultural references, beautiful angles, brilliant OST and an overall familiar (for an arab) experience, i absolutely adored this film. i do not understand why this film makes a lot of people angry because even though i don’t live in saudi arabia, i’ve seen and heard about everything in the film and i guess publicized truth pisses a lot of people off instead of bothering to change things and make it all better for a society. that being said, i really hope you’d watch this film because (a) that girl is incredibly cute (b) it’s heart(aching)warming © an enjoyable lesson on ((part)) of a huge culture.on imdbwadjda’s press:the guardian | national geographic | film festival | variety -- source link
