Caroline hated the need to travel for her job. It had been fun, at first, jetting around the world, a meeting in Mumbai on Monday then finishing up her week in Paris by Friday. She’d enjoyed all the different foods, the different cultures, the different fashions. But then she’d met Jane. Lovely, simple Jane whose dream was to be the perfect little housewife for the person she loved. They’d tried to travel together, but Jane had grown so impatient, so bored with always being left behind at the hotels while Caroline went off to her meetings. They’d tried to separate, to find other people, but their hearts refused to be denied. Eventually, they’d settled on their current arrangement, where Caroline traveled as needed, while Jane kept the house ready for whenever she returned. It wasn’t perfect, but it made them both happy.
