Genderqueer is an older term than nonbinary and has a specific history of promoting the liberation and visibility of those who are outside of the gender binary. Let me say that again: the term genderqueer existed before the term nonbinary…and well over a decade before the creation of tumblr. I love my genderqueer identity for it’s history, it’s inherent inclusiveness, it’s power. Genderqueer defines my gender by what it is, rather than by what it is not.
