steverogersnotebook:I was watching TWS today, and when this scene came up, I found myself wondering what languages Steve speaks. Everyone talks about how many languages Bucky speaks, but I have scarcely seen a HC about Steve’s ability to assimilate languages. So I looked beyond the MCU into the (iffy) world of wikis, and apparently, Steve is also multilingual: Captain America: thanks to his enhanced memory from the Super-Soldier Serum can speak English, German, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, French and Italian. There might be even more. He picked up most of the languages fighting in World War II. [x]Rule of thumb: if a skill can be acquired through memorization and/or by picking up patterns, Steve can probably learn it very fast given the opportunity/need/interest. This makes him very good at language learning, but authors have used this to have him being good, for example, at unveiling mysteries - he quickly notices it when things are off pattern or when people contradict themselves. People underestimate Steve’s intelligence, but canonically in the comics, he’s brilliant, and there’s no reason I can think of that says this can’t be canon in the MCU.Related to this… The serum, canonically, is more than just a steroid that cures every illness and gives muscles. Steve, among other things, has a photographic memory, better reflexes, better balance, heals faster, even sees faster. It’s more or less like every system in his body (including his brain!) was enhanced. Conceivably, Steve would test higher than average on just about every physical and mental test you can put him through. Steve is not oblivious or only good at strategy. His skillset should be above what you’d believe a normal person would have! He is, by definition, overpowered. “Supersoldier” describes more his role/preferential way to operate than his powers - “superhuman” is probably a better way to describe what the serum created. What a character like Natasha has been trained all her life to do, Steve should be able to learn in maybe a few months. When headcanoning Steve, you should* be thinking of people like James Bond, who has like, whatever skill they need him to have in a given story.*Should as in “there’s canonical basis for this,” not as in “if you have different headcanons you’re wrong!” - do whatever is fun for you! -- source link
