On September 21, 1950, Eleanor Roosevelt and Edith Sampson attended the 5th @united-nations General Assembly in New York City.Sampson, an attorney at the time, was appointed as an alternate delegate to the United Nations by President Harry Truman, making her the first African American delegate representing the United States at the UN. Next to Sampson, Roosevelt was serving as a delegate to the UN General Assembly.
