ankalime:anyone else just wanted to hug him when he was suffering..? Cullen stood there trembling, using one hand to lean heavily against his desk. He had waved her away after stumbling, but had yet to move beyond that. The Inquisitor waited patiently, too afraid to move. It felt like everything in the room–Cullen included–had suddenly turned in to fragile glass. The slightest motion might shatter him. His eyes were distant, and watery with emotion. She could see the fear in his eyes, the regret, the intensity… the pain. The moment stretched out with agonizing slowness, and still Cullen did not move. The Inquisitor felt her heart rising in her throat, and became more and more certain that she had to do something. But she wasn’t sure what Cullen needed. So she did the only thing she could think of. With a few decisive strides, she closed the distance between herself and her Commander, and wrapped her arms around him. Cullen stiffened at first, freezing under her touch, and the Inquisitor thought perhaps she had mistepped. But after a few moments, when he didn’t pull away, the Inquisitor hugged him tighter. His arms remained limp at his sides, but the fingers of his free hand twisted idly in the fabric of her tunic. Slowly his head drooped to her shoulder, and she lifted a hand to stroke the back of his neck like he so often did himself. Slowly, the trembling subsided. The Inquisitor was wondering if she ought to let go, but then Cullen brought his arms up around her. “Just a moment longer,” he murmured against her shoulder. The Inquisitor pressed her cheek against the fur mantle on his shoulders, and squeezed him lightly in her grasp. “As long as you need.” -- source link
