The Breda Model 1935An automatic rifle that was developed in Italy, the Breda Model 1935 is important because it was one of the first firearms to utilize burst firing rather than fully automatic. When the trigger was pulled the Breda would fire a four round burst. The helped save ammunition and made it easier to control the weapon. Originally developed for 6.5mm Carcano, they would later be chambered for 7mm Mauser. The original Italian models in 6.5 Carcano were not burst fire models, but instead fired semi-automatic or fully automatic. Many of these would be pressed into service during World War II. It would be Costa Rica who would come up with the concept of burst fire. They were granted license to manufacture their own in 7x57 Mauser. About 400 would be produced for the Costa Rican Military. -- source link
