plannedfatherhood: youreprobablyafeminist: You might be a feminist if you believe women should be able to get tanked and not worry about rape. Nope, I object. I’m as much of a feminist as any other guy I know, but I believe this message is flawed. If I go get tanked in a bar, there are many, many negative consequences that could happen to me - getting mugged, getting beaten, getting in a wreck, becoming an alcoholic, sleeping with someone without a condom and catching an STI, etc. There’s no such thing as “Let me do irresponsible things without consequences.” Don’t try to label me as blaming a victim, I think the rapist is always to blame for their actions. This doesn’t change the basic truth about risk. We need to do a better job at teaching boys how to treat women, and teach girls how to avoid high-risk situations. This “get tanked and not worry about rape” idea doesn’t work rhetorically or realistically. What in the actual fuck? Are you somehow implying that there’s something wrong with the message that women should not be raped, no matter what state they’re in? Are you arguing that a woman who has too much to drink SHOULD be at a heightened risk for rape? Really? -- source link
