The remains of the Temple of Apollo at ancient Delphi, GreeceApollo was born on the island of Delos in the Cyclades and set out from there to make his way in the world, looking for a place to make his home until finally he arrived at Delphi nestled in a broad cliff on the south slopes of Mount Parnassos. The site was already sacred to the earth-goddess Gaia who had her oracle there, and was guarded by an enormous snake known as Python.
