nadiaerre:“Day Of The Dead/Dia de los Muertos is celebrated in many different ways in Mexico and Latin America. The way we celebrated it growing up was my mom would built an altar at home. You can have an altar in a cemetery, you can go to parades, you can go to the festivals…but we chose to do it at home and when you have an altar at home, you put the pictures of all those who are no longer with you, and it’s usually pictures of them smiling ‘cause you wanna remember them in a happy way. We always had Day Of The Dead bread, we always had sugar skull candy, sometimes with the name of them in there and you could have pictures of not only of those of your family, but other people you admired who had passed away. For example, I’ve always loved Frida Kahlo, the Mexican artist, so we always had a picture of Frida in our altars. Eventually now I’m a grown man, I have a wife, I have a son and now we’re building our own altar here and we’re starting to do the same thing: honoring my grandfather, honoring those who’re no longer here with us. What we’re doing this year is we’re adding all the names of our beloved to bookoflifemovie.com/landoftheremembered to honor them.”- Jorge Gutierrez on Dia de los Muertos@mexopolis -- source link
