8bitfuture:Head transplant plan detailed in new paper. The June issue of Surgical Neurology International features a paper detailing how advances in cell engineering mean a head transplant onto a donor body could now be technically possible.Although the procedure was performed in 1970 on a monkey, there was no way at that time to repair the spinal cord, meaning limb or bladder function could not be controlled after the operation. According to the paper, these hurdles have now been overcome by the development of specialized molecules which are able to both fuse and seal membranes together. The operation is proposed to be performed “under conditions of deep hypothermia for maximal protection of the neural tissue”. -- source link
