folklifestyle: A year ago this week I shared that we were printing the @folkmagazine Slow Living issue. It would bring FOLK out of dormancy after years of just being something I thought about on occasion. A year ago I said it would be a very slow and steady revival. We’d only offer issues as it made sense. There wasn’t going to be any risks taken. My passion for small towns, makers, slow living, and rural landscapes had returned and I wanted to enjoy it with a community I enjoyed so much. The Slow Living, Autumn, and Christmas issues were more successful than I could have imagined. You all truly blew me away with your support. I suppose in my quest for something else in life I had forgotten about the profound sense of community that comes with being where you’re meant to be and being it authentically. A year later here we are with a team that is more than just me, the plans for four issues this year, plus MADE, the events that we do at the farmhouse, a wholesale section, and more that I’m forgetting. Each day I wake up excited, but this week I’m a bit nervous. This is the week that sets the budget for the rest of 2021. With each of the issues last year we only offered them as individual copies. We said we didn’t want to do subscriptions because we didn’t know what the response to the revival would be. As we head into 2021 we see what the landscape is and we see that it is almost necessary and to the point of being unavoidable to offer subscriptions. Today we’re launching a 2021 subscription. It includes the spring, slow living (summer), autumn, and Christmas issues for 2021. You can add on the MADE issue if you’d like. Doing this will allow us to focus on growth and quality content over constantly starting back at zero for each issue….which is increasingly hard in a world of algorithms where people don’t see a new issue is being released until after it’s sold out. If you’d like to join us for the 2021 journey the link is in my profile. Y’all mean the absolute world to me.
