circular-time:Classic and EU Who Appreciation Week, Day 5Favorite Non-Companion Character: MARCONot to be confused with Marco Polo, this dashing young ginger is the “companion” of Giuliano, Duke of San Martino (dark-haired lad). That scene with Marco being tortured, trying not to betray his beloved Duke, trying so desperately to defend him— my ten-year-old self didn’t know exactly what I was seeing, but I was emotionally moved by it for reasons I didn’t have a name for until I was nearly 20. I was a sheltered child, mmkay? I really can’t pick just one favorite guest character, but Marco/Giuliano is a big reason why Masque of Mandragora has always been one of my favorite stories. So here’s to Marco.(Other characters I might’ve named: Shou Yuing, Brigadier Winifred Bambera, Dr. George Litefoot, MISTER FIBULIIIII, Dr. Todd and the “Are you an idiot?” old lady in Kinda, Alpha Centauri, Susan Mendes, Honour Blackman’s fantastic stint as the empress and aged concubine Anahita “Mistress of Poisons” in Children of Seth, and of course Lasarti.) -- source link
