Inclusivity & Representation matters. There really is (in my opinion) no reason to exclude anyone in your businesses, brands, websites, shows/films or even conversations. Growing up I never saw myself represented ANYWHERE. Not in magazines, on tv/film, on stage or through music, none in the areas I cared about (nor in the places I didn’t either!) Thinking about it now, I didn’t even see them employed in places I visited! Even as an adult, it’s only a few rare places that I see disability/access, & I get excited, which is ridiculous, because it should be NORMAL, not something unexpected & rare. It’s disappointing to see big companies I love, only showing the same people, a “typically” sellable, beautiful, white, thin, able bodied person. & let me be clear, I don’t blame the people in those shots, but it IS on the companies to WANT a more diverse team of people. It is wrong & simply untrue to have the mindset that other types of people will not “sell”. We need to start holding companies, big or small, & people accountable for doing this. Show me a disabled person on your stage, a plus size person modelling a handbag, a bipoc woman leading a team, an LGBTQIA+ person writing your blog posts, whatever it is..show me! In the age of social media, you can find every type of person online, so there really is no excuse, & if you’re actively choosing not to support us, why should we support you?
