Jean-Louis de Lolme is most remembered as a political theorist. In his writings he called for a modified system of government that balanced the need for democracy with that of the aristocracy. However, he also wrote on matters of religion and theology. In this work de Lolme revisits an early 16th century work on the flagellants, a heretical Christian sect. De Lolme addresses the earlier work’s content systematically while expanding on the history of the flagellants.Images from: Memorials of human superstition; being a paraphrase and commentary on the Historia flagellantium of the Abbé Boileau… London : printed for G.
