Ghanaian DJ Steloo Takes Accra House Music to Electropique Abidjan.Our favorite Ghanaian fashion DJ/sound artist Steloo of ACCRA HOUSE MUSIC recently visited Ivory Coast’s largest city to play a live electronic set at Abidjan’s Bushman Cafe in celebration of Electropique - an artistic and musical platform founded in Abidjan that promotes electronic music in the region. Catching up with him on his return from his brief trip, he shared a few words and images with us from his stay in Abidjan:I was part of Electropique’s 4th edition. Electropique is building a vibrant electronic music movement in Abidjan, just as Accra house music is doing in Accra. Basically, electronic music in the tropics. The team at Electropique apparently have been following my activities and decided to bring me on board the 4th edition of their event held at the Bushman Cafe in Abidjan. Watch out for the 5th Edition on April 16th with DJ Raoul K. Electropique is always massive with fantastic organisers.The Spanish and Ghanaian ambassadors to Cote d’Ivoire were present and they were awed by what seemed new but groovy. We had some good times.(CFA Franc, local currency)(Bushman Cafe)I wanted to experience Abidjan like someone living in the city and not a tourist. I interacted in my limited French and got the laughs but I found my way around local food joints and the streets without much hassle.From what I had heard, with regards to Ivory Coast and their taste for fashion, I didn’t think I would be so different, but I did stand out with my style and got the usual stares and interest in knowing who I am.My hosts were awesome too as they showed me around and I felt I was blending very well. On my next visit I’m sure to stay longer. I need to be a local of Abidjan :)The electronic music movement is growing. Both Kampnagel (Germany) and Electropique (Cote D’Ivoire) have been great platforms to further promote electronic music from Ghana and other parts of Africa.Are there any things to do or places to visit you’d recommend based on your trip?Definitely! Definitely! Bushman Cafe in Abidjan! Fantastic staff and the owners are down-to-earth, and they serve great food. Restaurant Adonai has great tchep, better than what I am used to in Accra :).
