Empty Reflecting Pool and US Capitol Building, Senate wing on the left, Washington, DC, 1 February 2020.This view toward the Senate wing of the Capitol across the empty reflecting pool is, I think, emblematic of this week. The empty reflecting pool is a metaphor for a Senate which failed to meet its Constitutional obligations as 51+ of its members violated their oaths of office. The time may all too soon arrive when the building, like the burned and gutted Reichstag in 1930s Berlin, will have no further function. The legislative branch failing to meet its obligations will have put the government - legislative, executive and judiciary functions - in the hands of a crazed despot. -- source link
