This is our first of three part series where we’ll be featuring the girls that answer your fashion tip questions. Our Black Girl Killing It is Danni Maclin aka L. Danielle… How old are you and where are you from?I am 19 years old and from Memphis, TN.What inspires you to blog? Everything inspires me to blog. I’m easily stimulated when it comes to fashion so just about everything inspires me.How would you define your personal style?I would call my style girly with an edge. I love the contrast between girly, frilly skirts and dresses with leather accessories or a leather jacket.Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?I actually follow trends, but I put my own spin on them. Like I love the leather and lace trend but I like to do a really edgy outfit with a girly twist whereas most people do the opposite.Items to get, what are you searching for right now? right now I’m searching for a faux fur jacketwhite pantsuita fringe bagAre there any colors you tend to shy away from, and if so why?I wear any and every color known to man. I don’t like to limit myself when it comes to fashion so completely eliminating a color from my wardrobe would almost kill me.When you hear the term “Black Girl Killing It” what comes to mind?A girl completely owning her look. She’s confident, sassy, and in control of her own destiny. She's killing it in every aspect of her life, from education to fashion. How has your experience been so far being one of the “Fashion Tip Girls” for BGKI?It has been wonderful to say the least. I finally get to use some of the knowledge I’ve gained from watching cheesy things like What Not to Wear and the September Issue. I also get to personally thank people that enjoy what we do. That gives me joy beyond belief. What other features do you think would be ideal for BGKI?I think BGKI is limitless. I can see t-shirts, a better blog, fashion tips for men, male interviews. I can see it all and hopefully I will get to be a part of it.As a child were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense?I was always into shopping so I was definitely always into clothing. My aunt, grandmother, and I would go on girls’ day out where we would shop all day, grab lunch, and shop even more. My mom wasn't much of a girly girl, but she always allowed me to be who I wanted to be. She still jokes about me having two pair of dress shoes, one pair for church and another pair for everywhere else. I was an extreme girly girl when I was younger, but I kind of gradually grew into my own style where everything didn’t have to scream girl.Do you participate in your local fashion scene? There really isn’t a fashion scene where I am so I just do my own thing. I stay in a college city so everything is basically centered around that. The fashion sucks! lolHow does your day to day life factor into your wardrobe choices?I dress the way I feel so my attitude for that day has a strong influence on what I wear. I am a different person every day so I like my clothing to reflect the person I feel like that day. Weather also plays a large role in the decision making process because the weather is so crazy where I live. One day it may be below freezing, but the next day it may be 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Those are the two main factors that influence my wardrobe choices. What is your greatest fashion pet peeve? My greatest fashion pet peeve is ill fitting clothing. The fit of clothing is so important. It can make or break an outfit. I have seen gorgeous outfits that looked horrible because they didn’t fit properly. That really irks my jerk lol.Have you ever tried your hand at design or sewing?Sewing? Yes. Designing? No. I usually alter my clothing, but I don’t do full out designs. Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you?I really love Alexander McQueen, Betsey Johnson, and Chanel just to name a few. They have really unique pieces.Who are your style icons?I love Miroslava Duma and Rihanna. They have very different styles, but somehow I find ways to incorporate both of their influences into my own style.Your five must-haves as a girl: White button downStatement blazerNice booty jeansCombat bootsStatement necklaceYou can stay in touch with this BGKI Fashion Tip girl on her Tumblr or Twitter -- source link
