supreme-leader-stoat:eternity-hero:supreme-leader-stoat:thebutchriarchy:Medusa with the Head of Perseus, Luciano Garbati, 2008Okay, so as much as I can appreciate the gray-and-grey or grey-and-black morality of a lot of Greek myths, I feel that modern feminism really likes misinterpreting the Perseus myth. Like, Perseus was tricked into swearing an oath (serious business in their time) by Polydectes to go and get Medusa’s head. Polydectes wasthe man who wanted to marry/rape Perseus’ mother but knew he couldn’t because Perseus would fight to protect her. This was specifically intended to be an impossible task that would ask as an excuse to banish Perseus if it didn’t get him killed. But nope, Perseus gets divine aid, gets Medusa’s head and returns to protect his mother and winds up petrifying Polydectes using Medusa’s severed head. Like I get this is a ‘girl power‘ sculpture and all that but this is just as dumb as that one of the girl standing in front of the Wall Street bull. If the story had played out this way it would have led to a young man being killed for trying to protect his mom and said mom potentially getting raped.Me:*Perseus and Medusa team up to behead the ones who are against them*One’s a young rookie trying to track down his missing mother. The other is a veteran of the force with a dark history who can kill with a look. Together, they fight crime! -- source link
