The Swift Training Rifle,Produced during World War II for the British military, the Swift Training Rifle was not an actual firearm, but a training device used to teach new recruits the basics of rifle shooting.  The purpose of the rifle was to train raw recruits who had absolutely no experience in shooting.  Thus the Swift Training Rifle was an excellent way to fundamentals such as proper sight alignment, stances, and trigger pull.  The trainee would aim the rifle with the muzzle about an inch away from a paper target.  The target had several figures of different sizes, larger figures representing objects at closer ranges, smaller figures representing objects at farther ranges.  Working the action cocked a spring within the rifle.  When the user pulled the trigger, two small needles would punch a hole in the target, letting the user know if he held and aimed the rifle properly.  It was only after successfully mastering a training rifle that he would then practice with live ammunition.Most Swift training rifles were issued to the Royal Air Force, the British Army believed the Swift Training Rifle was a pointless device.  They were also produced and used in Canada during World War II as well.  After the war many were sold to and used by rifle clubs and target shooters. -- source link
