We made our way to the Roman Pantheon, as the soft sunlight illuminated the circular room. The Pantheon was commissioned during the reign of Augustus Caesar(adopted nephew of Julius Caesar) in 27 BC. Although it was rebuilt in 126 BC by Emperor Hadrian, the Pantheon continues to be the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome two thousand years later. Much like the Basilica, it was difficult to distinguish any sort of damage that had been done to the interior despite the age of the structure. For dinner that night, we found a place to split an antipasta and pizza, both, which were fantastic. We enjoyed a salad with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes and a prosciutto e funghi pizza, which consisted of thinly sliced ham, fresh mushrooms, tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. We made our way back to the main street, and found that the skies had began to darken. Feeling quite sleepy, we headed back to our accommodation. -- source link
