macrolit:Before the world went on lockdown, I used to enjoy occasionally working from coffee shops. I really enjoyed the soft instrumental jazz, the muffled conversations, the scent of freshly-brewed coffee, and essentially being among people without having any obligation to interact. Well, I recreated this for myself by essentially turning my home office into a 1940s book shop cafe. I’m usually a “don’t-put-anything-except-books-on-a-shelf” kind of guy, but as you can see here, I’ve mixed in a lot of things to give it a coffee shop feel, including a sound machine (at the top), which I leave on 24/7 so it sounds like the shop is near the ocean; some candles (yes, they’re artificial! I’d never put actual fire so close to my beloved books! ); bags of coffee and other treats to give the room the right scent; and some real candles from @cstardust (❤️) and @frostbeardmpls. So now when I’m working (especially at night), I find one of the “coffee shop music” channels on YouTube (which includes sounds like the clinking of glasses, muffled conversations, etc.), turn on the artificial candles, light a real candle next to me, brew a cup of coffee, and I’m exactly where I want to be. -- source link
