Project Runway All Stars Season 4 - Episode 3: Something Wicked This Way Comes Are you wicked or goo
Project Runway All Stars Season 4 - Episode 3: Something Wicked This Way Comes Are you wicked or good? This seemed to be the main question behind Project Runway All Stars’ latest challenge. The musical ‘Wicked’, being presented in Broadway, collaborated with the TV Show for a challenge in which the designers had to randomly pick up one of the two themes in a fashion face-off which saw each one of them going against one of their fellow designers. The worst of the couples were going to be against the bottom contestants while the best ones could have the chance to win the episode and see their creation permanently displayed in Broadway. Again, my judgment perfectly reflected that of the judges - wow, this never happens in PR! Sonjia was my favourite without any doubt. I have to say that in general I preferred the 'Good’ looks, perhaps because the 'Wicked’ theme is already too predictable and constantly seen in fashion, while is more difficult to present a 'Good’ look without going too fairy-tale. Sonjia’s look was perfect, from not being too costumy to the choice of fabric and colour. I loved the skirt, which was really like a sort of cute little apron over a little dress. I would have never said Sonjia would make a good 'Good’ look - I sort of see her aesthetic more urban and, in this case, more towards 'Wicked’ - but she made it and she delivered an absolutely winning look. Chris had to go home. When the judges said that it looked like one of those custome t-shirts all cut out with the scissors I thought 'I’m not the only one to have noticed that then!’. The one shoulder, the tulle under the tail of this mermaid-meets-flamenco-dancer dress, the choice of colour ( I HATE that grey over grey), everything is completely hideous, including the Halloween witch styling. I think Chris tends to go too 'drag queen-ish’ when it comes to making something different from ready-to-wear. No surprise Betsey Johnson liked it: it’s exactly what she’s been doing for the past few collections. I couldn’t understand why Helen was among the bottom two. Those of my readers who have followed me since the beginning know that I kinda can’t stand Helen - even though it seems she’s got better as a designer since her PR season - but this time it seemed to me that her look was one of the best. I know that hand-making ruffles for one entire day doesn’t automatically make a dress beautiful, but I liked her 'half and half’ concept - I thought it was very coherent with the double theme of the musical, even if her theme was 'Good’ - and I didn’t mind that sort of big panel made of ruffles; after all, they had to design couture, she was not designing for someone going to the supermarket. And I wouldn’t either put Fabio among the worst; he was not one of my favourites for this episode, but at least he made something original, extravagant and unique, following his point of view. As I liked Helen’s, differently from the judges, I couldn’t make out how could they possibly put Samantha’s among the best - actually in the top two!!! Again, if you’ve followed me all this time, you know I wanted Samantha to come back in All Stars because I thought her elimination was one of the most unfair in Project Runway history. But this time, she really struggled and you could see it. The result was not even as bad as I thought it was going to be, to be honest, but it wasn’t definitely good. Everything looked unfinished, and I really didn’t think, as some of the judges said, that it was an interesting aspect of her look; I just thought it was unfinished because she didn’t have any time left, full stop. After all, to sum up, I can definitely say I’m satisfied with how things are going - apart from Patricia’s elimination on the first episode ;( - and the general level really seems acceptable - and surely higher than the last few PR seasons. But Project Runway, as we know, is full of surprises. Let’s wait together until the next episode. xxx -- source link
