Archarological Museum of PatraA circular marble table with three legs. the short legs are decorated with a relief of felids’ heads and end in lions’ paws. It is a work of exceptional artistry and preservations and it was found during the 1950s in the water tank of Patras’ fortress. It dates from the Imperial years of the Roman conquest (end of 1st cent. B.C. - end of 3rd cent. A.D)Not quite furniture, but another intresting object from the museum’s collection is this marble sundial mounted on lion’s feet, from Patras’ Roman period, with its gnomon (hour hand) missing. @everythingbutresolved If you are looking for wooden objects, check this tag on the blog, and if you have a particular interest for ancient furniture, look at these ivory fragments from furniture at the Archaeological Museum of Isthmia, and the furniture tag. Usually wooden objects are retrieved from port towns that sunk after an earthquake, or things sunk under marshland. But even if wooden furniture usually doesn’t make it through the centuries, we have a lot of finds from the its decoration, such as ivory and metal applications. ——————–And as always you can support all that museum documentation right here: https://ko-fi.com/isabia -- source link
