Behind the Scenes of The End of Time (Part 32) Excerpt from a Dec 2009 Reader’s Digest article by Benji Wilson:When David Tennant sits down to watch a bit of telly this Christmas, he’ll have trouble avoiding himself. Two Doctor Who Christmas specials, a film of his RSC Hamlet, appearances on QI and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, a collaboration with his one-time Doctor Who companion Catherine Tate… “And there’s other stuff. I think after Christmas I’ll disappear for a while. People will be sick of the sight of me.”In one sense, of course, Tennant will be disappearing after Christmas - the Doctor Who specials are his last as the Doctor.Once Christmas is over, though, Tennant will be the Doctor no more. It’s hard to picture: even today, in a dimly lit club room and wearing understated dark jacket and jeans, he still has that whippet-like energy and capacity for mischief that just seem so… Doctorish.“I don’t have any regrets. Maybe it will be different once I’ve handed it over and somebody else is on. Maybe once it’s on TV I’ll have pangs of jealousy.”He says he’s spoken to his successor several times, “but there’s nothing to say. We got in touch and I think we both thought we’d be able to exchange lots of ideas. But actually it’s none of my business how Matt does it and nothing I say can really help him. The thing we talked about was the other bits of your life that change and how disorientating that can be at first: the scrutiny your life comes under. You have to establish where your public and private life begin and end.
