13 • 12 • 17 | ig: @parisiemmesuper excited for my trip to paris this weekend! it will be a good opportunity to practise my french, which has gotten a little rusty in the last year or two. i thought i would share some of my favourite tools, in case any of you would like to learn or are learning français (under the cut)…mot à mot - this little vocab book was my best friend when i was studying and it’s still so useful to this day. it gives you key phrases and vocab that you will actually use, in life and in writing, so i will keep this in my bag during my trip.reprise - it’s an expensive workbook but worth every penny, considering how chunky it is. french grammar is notoriously difficult and the exercises in here helped me get to grips with a lot of the finer details.french books worth reading/films worth watching:la délicatesse - one of the first french novels i read. the intermediate learner will be able to understand most of it, save for a few complex verb forms you may need to look up, but the vocabulary itself is everyday and manageable. i personally really liked the writing style of it, too!bonjour tristesse - perhaps recommended to me because i, too, was a 17-year-old girl at the time, this book still sticks with me. it’s indeed relatable and, like la délicatesse, is not a difficult read. more of a light novel in size but packed full of drama and emotion, as the french do best.jeux d’enfants - marion cotillard and guillaume canet are essentially the french brangelina kim and kanye (how upsetting is that rectification?) and this film is actually from before they became a couple. it’s one of those heart-wrenching friends-to-lovers tales, and anyone who knows even an inkling of french will share my disdain at the english title of the film, which has virtually nothing to do with the original french. ah, well. the édith piaf soundtrack makes up for it.and, of course, nothing is more useful than speaking with real french people. during my studies we had an assistant and every week i’d have individual conversations and activities with her entirely in french (her english was limited, so it meant i couldn’t just take the easy way out). i know not everyone has access to this, but there are plenty of ways to find a french pen pal to help you learn and understand the context of the language better, too (if it weren’t for my french friend, i wouldn’t have known that no self-respecting french person actually uses the phrase “comme ci, comme ça”!). try googling, searching through hashtags on instagram/twitter and joining tumblr/facebook communities of people looking for something similar. le monde est dans la poche!bonne chance! ~ -- source link
