ԼԵՒՈՆ ՄԵԾԱԳՈՐԾ - Levon the Magnificent by Ruben Arutchyan.During the reign of King Levon the Magnificent (1187-1219) the Armenian t'agaworakan (literally meaning “king’s”), commonly referred to as “tagwor,” was widely circulated and became a popular choice of international currency, during this time, surpassing the popularity of the Venetian ducat. This period marked the golden age in the history of Armenian coinage circulation, which went beyond its borders and exceeded the circulation extent of the imperial era of Tigranes the Great.
