Day 15 of 31 days of my favorite scary movies goes to Exorcist III (1990). Despite its title, the film is only loosely tied to the original Exorcist through the character of Lt. Kinderman (portrayed by the ever reliable George C. Scott). Writer and director William Peter Blatty (who also wrote and directed The Exorcist) very badly wanted to retain the film’s original title Legion, particularly in light of the terrible Exorcist II, but alas executive meddling won out and the movie flopped. The film is nonetheless a solid piece of cinematic horror in its own right. It is a very talky and philosophical film that also has a number excellently timed and executed scares. One particular scene, which you will know if you see it, was one of the few times I remember physically jumping in my seat in a movie theater. Apart from Scott, I have nothing but good things to say about Brad Dourif’s disturbing performance as the man professing to be the Gemini Killer (loosely based on the Zodiac Killer). -- source link
