Day 24 of 31 days of my favorite scary movies is the third horror anthology on my list, 2012’s V/H/S. Opinions of this collection of stories seems divided, both among critics and among horror fans, and there are some weak parts; however, I think there is enough of a solid variety of horror here to recommend it to fans of scary movies. The framing narrative (Tape 56) is definitely the weakest bit, but there is probably something for just about everyone in one or more of the five main segments. Amateur Night is a clever little vignette where overly amorous party dudes get more than they bargained for. Second Honeymoon (directed by Ti West) is the only non-supernatural story, but in some ways arguably the creepiest. Tuesday the 17th is an interesting twist on the classic tale of teens being hunted in the woods by a faceless killer. The Sick Thing that Happened to Emily When She Was Younger has probably the slowest buildup of any of the five films, but I found the journey worth the time. Finally, 10/31/98 is kind of an action-packed haunted house story with some pretty cool special effects. At nearly two hours, V/H/S is longer than a lot of horror films, but I find it can make for a pretty fun evening. -- source link
