congenitaldisease:On 25 July, 1946, two young African American couples - George Dorsey, his wife, Mae Murray who was seven months pregnant, Roger Malcom, and his wife, Dorothy Malcom, were in the car of the men’s boss, Loy Harrison, who was driving them home. On the drive home they were stopped by a mob of white people, who were blocking off the Moore’s Ford bridge in Georgia. The two men were dragged from the car and beaten. One of the women recognised one of the lynchers and as a result, the women were dragged from the car and tied to the tree beside their husbands. They two couples were then tied to a nearby tree and shot. Mae Murray had her fetus cut out from her body.Despite the crime taking place in broad daylight, nobody was ever arrested for the brutal murders. One possible motive was that earlier in the month, Roger Malcom had allegedly stabbed a white man, Barnette Hester. He was released on bail which was paid by his boss. -- source link
