(via swearbyallflowers)What did it cost him?Nineteen years of watching.TWENTY.IT IS TWENTY.FUCK THE FUCKING EDITS IN THE NEW NOVELIZATION COPIES. IT WAS TWENTY. (I might be a bit pissed off about discovering that the OT novels were edited after the prequels came out.)Fuck, I had twenty in the initial and the. I went hangon which is it? Damn precaff brain. On the other hand, depending on how long it really took him to get to Tattooine undetected and from there to hand him to Owen and Beru, nineteen might be almost okay. I can’t believe it took him less than a fair few months to get there while hiding everything.(Plus any time spent leaving and chasing around after Ferus. Not watching then…)Well, the kid hadn’t aged much from birth to hand-off, that’s for sure.(Also, in the book, Lucas says 20 outright.)Obi-Wan’s age being retconned in TPM was annoying. The novelization edits are infuriating. There are entire passages missing.Somebody edited TPM WHAT?!Okay. In 1999, there were conflicting sources for Obi-Wan’s age. Some said 20 (which is sensible) and some said 25 (which makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER*). By the end of the year, Lucas had snap-decided “25!” and all of the sources that said otherwise were quietly disappeared and disposed of. I stuck with 20 for Re-Entry, because fuckdammit, it made sense—and gave credence for the idea that Obi-Wan and Anakin were supposed to be close enough in age to consider each other brothers before the whole intermarriage thing happened.Qui-Gon also got slightly ret-conned. I still have source material in my posession that blatantly says he is in his 60s. Now most sources say 57 or lower.(He’s avoiding knighting until that point because that might mean leaving Qui-Gon and that is a bad decision for all involved. ) -- source link
