I DID IT!! I’m not crying, you are Words cannot fully describe the joy I feel at finally achieving this achievement and stepping stone in my journey to become a meteorologist. I have literally crawled my way here. I have survived a failed engagement and trauma that ensued from that experience. I have survived multiple health issues and surgeries. I have survived a workman’s comp case from hell that lasted 3 years and left me with permanent damage in my left shoulder. I have survived so many financial setbacks that I thought for sure would close the door on my dream career. I have survived and continue to work on my depression, anxiety, and OCD that never let go. The last decade has certainly not been a cake walk, but I have learned so much along the way. One of my fellow graduates made me cry as we were waiting to enter the gym. We were making casual conversation and discussing our future. After hearing my story, she started crying and told me I inspired her so much. Who knew my trials would inspire someone? If there’s anything I can share today, it’s to NEVER give up! I have had so many roadblocks that should’ve derailed me. By all rights, I shouldn’t be standing here with this Associates Degree, but I am. NIU and the meteorological world look out!
