angrytransgirlsunited:yeinesomemdarre:bellygangstaboo:“The most excellent George RR Martin adapts some African book by some African somewhere”.. Why’d they pick an old white guy like George to adapt a African woman’s story? Typical Hollywood / TV. he ain’t even finish winds of winter… get the fuck back to the computer George, maybe try shoehorning some not wildly racist racial caricatures and demeaning analogues to anyone who isn’t white in your fantasy, just once. Nnedi Okorafor is a Nigerian-American writer, and her work is amazing! The vast majority of her work takes place in Nigeria and the main characters are always women. She blends myth, tradition, and sci-fi beautifully, and some of her short stories can be found on her website, nnedi.com, or performed in audio on podcast sites like Lightspeed and Clarke’s World. She also gave a long interview on the podcast “Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy” (though the second half of that episode isn’t worth listening to, once her interview is over the rest of the episode is two white guys talking about Africa in sci-fi).Not only does she deserve the credit she was denied here, she is also a better writer than Martin, far more innovative, relevant, and hopeful. Plus, she’s funny as hell. My personal recommendation if you wanna check out her work is “Spider the Artist”. -- source link
