Capitales, iglesia arquitectura románica, Estella/Lizarra, Navarra, Spain, 2001.Over the past 20 years I have become somewhat obsessed by romanesque architecture. Estella/Lizarra has a wonderful collection of such architecture as it was for many years the seat of the government of Navarra and contains its royal pantheon. As often the case, some of exterior carvings are weathered beyond recognition, though originally they displayed a large variety of subjects from portrayals of saints, biblical luminaries, royal personages, townspeople, and a variety of animals both real and mythical as well as botanical designs. As both Basque and Castellano are spoken in the region, the town is usually given the dual name. -- source link
