Because in this set she’s communicating to the audience “I’m not racist, not like this old bitch, I voted for a Black dude, TWICE” but in the beauty parlor scene she says some disgustingly racist things, particularly about voodoo, while actively asking for a favor (and her analogy of the hammer and nail that got totally shut down is a pretty obvious one) She’s a very racist woman, but she would never see it in herself because, hey she’s cool with Black folks in power and her bigotry isn’t as obvious or violent as Marie’s. It’s like two generations of American racism showing that we haven’t gotten better we’ve just gotten better at hiding it. ^^^^^^^^^^ there’s the message and I bet 0% of white folks who watch this show will figure that out on their own -- source link
