verkur:well. craig hicks. people still barely know you. article reports use the passive voice. their titles are along the lines of “3 muslims killed..” instead of the more active voice we get when the aggressor is muslim, with titles like “muslim man kills…”. they call you a “man”. they don’t make reference to your personal beliefs. they do not interrogate anything about your faith (or your anti-theism [i make a distinction between atheism & anti-theism]) which i find exceedingly generous. after all, isn’t the muslim killer’s faith one of the first things tabloids love to highlight? it’s clickbait, maybe. a day later twitter will be taken over with anger towards these “ragheads” or the occasional hashtag calling for a muslim genocide. (#killallmuslims). these days i’ve seen such disturbing things. women being advised to take off their hijab when they visit france. a lady casually saying she doesn’t wear the hijab anymore because she was attacked once. a picture circulating of a muslim man taking the subway, bleeding profusely from head to toe, shirt soaked red, with gashes on his arms, because he was attacked and stabbed. i thought, why is he sitting there alone? why are people just watching? but people are always just watching aren’t they? my heart hurts. islamophobic anti-theists like richard dawkins & his ilk often pride themselves on their rationality. all the while criticizing muslims with passionate vehemence with ahistorical, contextually barren claims. a complete disregard for the history of politics between the western world & the middle east. they make sexist remarks about muslim women, paint them as an oppressed group because of what we have to go through under the hands of muslim men. do they know that muslim women suffer far more under the hands of western imperialism? sure, talk about 9/11 & how barbaric we are. & yet how many women have died in the wars justified by 9/11, under the guns & bombs of the US military? try a million, maybe? will dawkins & harris talk about how muslim women are oppressed, are killed, by forces like neo-imperialism & foreign policy, both of which were justified by islamophobic sentiments? will they talk about how influential people like themselves tirelessly to drum up such sentiments? or are they only bothered by the oppression of muslim women when it’s done under the hands of muslim men? you see, yusor & razan were muslim women who were killed by a white anti-theist. he detested their religion. where did he learn to hate them so much he wanted to kill them? the words of people like dawkins, it seems. & oh, i guess hicks was just following the advice of sam harris..will islamophobic anti-theists now realize, finally, that their hate speech & the hate speech of terrorists associated with religions aren’t that much different? the only difference is who they are directing you to hate? will people like dawkins & harris realize, finally, that their hate speech can have the same consequences? affirming the prejudices of a killer. you see, i have nothing against atheism when they make valid, constructive criticisms of institutional religion. but anti-theist atheists who think themselves better & more advanced than the religious while at the same time profusely resort to racist, sexist, hateful language under the guise of ‘rationality’ angers me. they have always angered me. because this is what it can do. -- source link
