sappysapphics:Hey any LGBT+ Christians or LGBT+ kids who live in Christian households who would like a resource to help their religious guardians learn about and accept LGBT+ people, this is a fantastic book for you! It does primarily focus on gay people, as the author is a gay man, however he does group bisexual people in with all his arguments and also mentions trans people a few times (although again, most of the book is not about them)Justin Lee has a story that I’m sure many of us have heard at this point, he grew up extremely conservative in a very religious household, then eventually discovered he was gay and spent some time struggling with reconciling the two. In this book he tells his story, interspersed facts about the “ex-gay movement” to show that it doesn’t really work. Along with that he includes critical analyses of passages of the bible dealing with homosexuality, where he ultimately comes to the conclusion that those passages were written in a culture that doesn’t exist anymore, and due to some of the words used or specific social structures that don’t exist those passages can’t really be applied in the same way in a modern context as they were back when they were written. The book is specifically written in a way to appeal to conservative readers, mixing emotional appeals with logical arguments for his points while also addressing their points of view and without demeaning them in order to keep them reading and listening to what he has to say. For this reason, not only is it a great resource for LGBT+ Christians to come to terms with both their faith and their sexuality, it also is a fantastic resource to be a first step for conservative Christians who have never really previously thought about how their stances on LGBT+ issues affect real people. You can buy it on amazon here, it’s about $10 for a kindle or paperback and $20 for a hardcover copy -- source link
