At the heart of our mission, the Brooklyn Museum strives to connect artworks in our diverse permanent collection and special exhibitions with the unique experience of each visitor. With each installation, we are interested in how works of art resonate with you—what questions they spark, what interpretations they inspire. Through #BKMDraw, a series of conversations with visitors paired with illustrations of the artworks that catch their eye, we will highlight the voices of our visitors and capture snippets of the conversations that enliven our galleries. MCR: What drew you to this stained glass?Simone:I like that he has a doughnut on his coat.MCR:Are you going to include that detail in your stained glass project [as part ofGallery & Studio Program]?Simone:Maybe.MCR:What else attracted you to this work?Simone:The stick that he is holding.MCR:What did you notice about it?Simone:It has a little thing on top of it. It is not just a stick – it has somethingon top.MCR:Could you tell me a bit more about what you’re doing in your GSP class? I knowit’s called “Stain and Glow.”Simone:This morning, we chose pictures, and we cut them into different shapes, and weput them back together on black paper. It had to have a little black spacebetween the pieces.MCR:I see, so that it mirrors stained glass! Aminata, I know you’re one of theteaching assistants for this course. Could you tell me a bit more about whatthey’re up to?Aminata:They’re bringing in photos from home of people that they know, that they like.Everyone is going to draw that photo onto paper, put it on plexiglass, traceit, and turn it into their own stained glass.MCR:Awesome! Will we get to see that in Education Gallery exhibition at the end ofthe semester?Aminata:Yes, that’s why we’re here—we’re trying to get inspiration from Kehinde Wiley!Posted by Margo Cohen RistorucciIllustration by Sam Kelly -- source link
