dwellerinthelibrary:Arsinoe II Philadelphos (by egisto.sani)Many Black people are (quite reasonably IMHO) suspicious that so many Ancient Egyptian statues are missing their noses. (Just the other day I saw an Aztec statue whose features had been defaced by the conquistadors.) However, as I’ve said before, to prove this wasn’t just damage to a vulnerable part of the statue, but vandalism done to hide African features, you’d have to do quite a lot of legwork. Here’s one data point: a statue of an Egyptian queen whose nose probably wasn’t removed to disguise African flatness. She is Arsinoe II Philadelphios, a Ptolemy who had only Greek-Macedonian ancestry. If this coin bears anything like an accurate portait, Arsinoe had a conk you could cut glass with. -- source link
