The Pate Revolving CannonAn interesting artillery piece, the Pate Revolving Cannon was a pretty much like a large revolver.  With a five shot cylinder and a two inch bore, the cannon was invented and built by attorney and Henry Clay Pate during the American Civil War to aid the Confederacy.  It was fired using percussion caps and the cylinder was turned with the used of a ratchet lever.The Pate cannon saw use at the siege of Petersburg.  On April 27th it was captured by Union forces and sent to West Point for study. -- source link
