The Puckle Gun,Invented by the British inventor James Puckle in 1718 during the reign of Queen Anne, the Puckle Gun was a tripod mounted anti-personnel flintlock gun that used 11 shot revolving pre-loaded cylinders to increase firepower. The use of the cylinder, a predecessor to the modern revolver, increased firepower greatly when most firearms were muzzleloading single shot weapons. A flintlock mechanism was used to discharge the weapon, with the flashpan needing to be primed with each shot. The cylinder was rotated by hand in between shots. Turning a crank released the cylinder, at which point a new preloaded cylinder could be installed. During a public test in 1722, it was shown that the weapon could fire 63 shots in 7 minutes, an average of 9 shots per minute.James Puckle created two different models. One used regular round bullets, which were only to be used against fellow Christians. The other fired square bullets to be used against “Muslim Turks”. It was believed, for some odd reason, that the square projectiles would somehow drive the fear of the Christian God into the Muslims and convince them of the “benefits of Christian civilization”. Both square and round bullet models were 1.25 inches in caliber. Not many Puckle Guns would be produced, as it was hard to build using 18th century gunsmithing techniques. There is no record of them ever being used in combat. -- source link
