Though often stern and uninviting, and silent due to lifelong muteness, they lived happily among the clan, binding themself to Merrill, the clan’s First, and Tamlen, a fellow hunter. At 20, Grimhilt bore a son with Tamlen, named Welon and raised among the trio for three years before the Blight struck Ferelden.With Tamlen gone and having contracted the fatal darkspawn Taint, Grimhilt was determined to live out their last days defending the clan from the incoming hoard. However, they were conscripted into the Grey Wardens, and left Welon with Merrill to seek out a new blood debt. They were among the Wardens on the frontlines overwhelmed by darkspawn when Loghain Mac Tir withdrew his soldiers, and were left for dead as the soldiers retreated. The remaining two Wardens, including the future Hero of Ferelden, presumed they had perished as well, until they mysteriously appeared in Lothering, wounded but alive.Having apparently survived by playing dead, then killing the scavenging darkspawn, Grimhilt joined the group more or less as a bodyguard. They struck up a friendship, and later a relationship with Morrigan, who taught them to use their long forgotten magical talents to become a shapeshifter. Though they were named Warden Constable by Warden-Commander Tabris, they do not serve actively in Amaranthine, preferring the company of Morrigan, Merril, and their children. Some in Ferelden and the Free Marches report a strange, silent wolf roaming the woods, accompanied by a pup and two ravens.
