iscrystalmethvegan2theveganing:mustangscullaaay:mustangscullaaay:elierlick:Shots firedokay, no, this is simply untrue and honestly a really harmful thing to say. i am deeply hurt and angered by the creation and production ideals behind the stonewall movie (which is why i haven’t even blogged about it much, it literally burns me with rage to think about) but regardless of the presence of black people, latinx people, other people of color, trans women, and lesbians/bi women, who ARE NOT getting accurate or respectful representation in this movie, we do not get to take a dump on cis gay men of any race who were in fact at that bar, on that night, and who did in fact get arrested and terrorized by cops on a daily basis due to their sexuality and expression of it for decades or more preceding the riots, right alongside other members of the lgbt community. that’s literally just a reality. they are/were also oppressed. #i am not about this culture of ‘let’s take potshots at gay men now’ #we can critique them for the privileges they may have and uphold #but we do not get to erase their experiences as a minority #especially in this offensively historically inaccurate context #stopokay, i am really heated about this. like, heated enough that i fell asleep heated and then woke up heated. then i was looking thru some of the other reblogs and i saw this and just…………please, guys. please can we talk about what a fucking awful thing this is to do. white gay men have a complicated history within the context of the rest of the lgbt community because of their positional privilege on more than a few axes, but it’s really, majorly fucked, to classify every last one of them as homonationalized narcs who’d rather be ‘cowardly’ than face fighting back against something that also oppressed them. i mean, i legitimately hope i’m not putting myself in a position to like, defend white gay men with actually data b/c that’s really not a way i want to spent my time, but like OH MY GOD it is literally so terrible to imply that white gay men did not suffer police abuse and then when faced with the opportunity to do something about it would leave. and it’s also not a real fact. this is coming from a person who has, through college and personal interest, done a fair amount of study concerning the actual details of how those riots (which lasted for a few days– you cannot tell me that in that time there was not a single white cis gay man just as fed up and raging at the system as everyone else) went down. as important as it is to demand more-than-adequate representation for the frontrunners, most of which were women of color, it is fucking unnecessary to hollow out the reality of another oppressed group so like ‘attention is directed at the right place’ or w/e. this is literally fucking harmful shit.this is fucking gross. -- source link
