Sculpture: Henry Moore “Knife Edge Mirror Two Piece” (1976-78), Entrance to the East Bui
Sculpture: Henry Moore “Knife Edge Mirror Two Piece” (1976-78), Entrance to the East Building, National Gallery of Art, The Mall, Washington, DC, 2014.Perhaps reflecting its total inadequacy as a museum, at least from a visitor’s point of view, the East Building is currently undergoing restoration and rebuilding with most of its interior galleries closed. Possessing all the charm of a cold storage warehouse, the I.M. Pei designed building had impossible galleries full of acute ages and thus bad sight lines for the often large pieces it displayed, awful circulation patters overtly hostile to anyone with mobility problems, and construction materials which have not aged well, the East Building is one of the worst art museums ever built by a major institution. One assumes some of these problems will be addressed by the reconstruction. Meanwhile a selection of its sculpture remains on display, including this fine Moore work displayed on the entrance portico. -- source link
