(Source.)Ideally, whether or not Taiwan rejoins the mainland should be decided by the people of Taiwan, rather than by international treaty or a great power flexing its influence (*sideeyes America’s long history of couping states that do things it doesn’t like*). Am I willing to start a nuclear war over that ideal if China were to go “nah, it’s ours”? Hell no.Not that that’s likely in the first place. Seriously, when was the last time China sent its military in to a place to enforce it’s will? Vietnam’s war with Pol Pot? China isn’t going to invade Taiwan; when China gets serious about this, it’s going to court Taiwan with a propaganda blitz. It will flex its economic muscles at Taiwan like a dude on Venice Beach trying to pick up a girl, “you know you want a peice of this prosperity and power, babe.”But I digress: if my choices for the future are “China takes over the world” and “nuclear armageddon” I’m choosing “China takes over the world” every time and I would do so enthusiastically even if I believed every last iota of anti-China propaganda put out by the CIA-controlled Western media. Even if China is truly horrific, all empires fall eventually and it’s only a matter of time (and armed struggle) until the glorious revolution that overthrows the tyrannical See-See-Pee–whereas on the flip side, you can’t undo the extinction of humanity. -- source link
