An American GI uses a bulldozer to plow Japanese “Mickey Mouse” money into large piles, Manila, 1944.During the World War II Japanese occupation of the Philippines, the Japanese issued their own peso to be used as currency in the Philippines. The new peso was worth so little that the Filipinos often referred to it as “Mickey Mouse” money, and often Filipinos had to haul bricks of money in wheelbarrows in order to buy basic groceries. After the Japanese occupation, most of the money was collected into large piles on the streets and burned. -- source link
