Did you know that Ancient Egyptians believed that a deceased woman had to undergo a gender transformation to enter the afterlife? This Sunday, March 26 at 2pm join us for Brooklyn Talks: Gender Transformation in Ancient Egypt. This will be an intimate conversation in our Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, Forum with Kathlyn M. Cooney, Associate Professor of Ancient Egyptian Art and Archaeology and Chair of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA, and Ed Bleiberg, Senior Curator of Egyptian Art at the Brooklyn Museum. They will discuss ideas about creation and rebirth, as well as the important impact of feminism on helping scholars understand the role of gender in Ancient Egypt. The conversation will be followed by a tour led by Kathlyn M. Cooney and Ed Bleiberg of our exhibition A Woman’s Afterlife: Gender Transformation in Ancient Egypt.Posted by Camilo GodoyPhoto: Kathlyn M. Cooney, by Marissa Stevens -- source link
