Name: Ridgely Dunn Home Chronicle: I am the HST of Chicago: Dark Requiem, but my Player Homebase is 7 Embers Sabbat What do you do when you are not gaming: I am a writer and editor with a ton of side jobs that allow me to claim an artist’s profession. I teach online as well (English and History) and occasionally host wine tastings. I also roleplay for a living, no joke! I am a fake patient for a company that administers tests to those seeking their medical residencies in the US. When I am not writing or working, I am into dance (burlesque and swing dancing at the moment), thrift and antique shopping, cooking, and all things historical. I am currently working on a short story set during the Belle Époque, so I have set aside my fascination with the Ottoman Empire and Eastern Europe, if only temporarily. Favorite Clan/Tribe: As a whole, I will always adore the Tzimisce, particularly because I feel this clan is so saturated in real world history. I’m not playing one at the moment, but as a Sabbat player, I’m surrounded by them. Attention to detail and a good story always grab me, so it’s a natural fit. Plus, there is the added bonus of all the revenant lines, which I feel naturally leads to more intriguing and diverse skill sets among the characters. There is kind of this whole “creepy family” vibe going on that you don’t get with other clans; the Ventrue try, but they’re just not creepy enough! Tzimisce are the quintessential vampire and make for great, classic genre. Why you love OWbN: Well, since almost every girl has said the people, I am going to have to go with my second, yet-equally-valid reason: the creative gratification. I am a natural storyteller. Writers can spend years over a single work, yet I can instantly see whether a plot or character has potential when I introduce it to my players. If I can move a player to engage or inspire emotion through their interaction with an NPC, I know that I am succeeding. Plus, nothing is more rewarding to me then to hear people share war stories, knowing that I helped to create the atmosphere and events that gave the characters their some of their more memorable moments. Why you are an OWbN Girl: I was the first female storyteller in OWbN, so I understand exactly what girls face being active participants in a predominantly male hobby. However, contrary to the common misconception, there is no gender divide in what most players want in a good game; I know men who enjoy a good story as much as any woman, and I know girls who can throw down with the best of the boys, and love doing it. Just as feminism brings more to the table than simply rights and respect for women, I see the Girls in a similar way. I feel the main mission of the Girls is to insure all players experience positive interactions with the Org by empowering them with the basic tools necessary to participate and enjoy themselves to the fullest. A big part of that is promoting equality. Hidden Talent/Something People Do Not Know: I have probably handled more ancient artifacts than anyone else in the Org. I spent a summer working in the Regenstein Laboratory at Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History. I can tell you exactly how many Australian Aboriginal artifacts the museum owns (40,000), and just how many were on display when I worked there (4). I have also been up close and personal with the remnants of the Columbian Exposition (many of the pieces contain arsenic and you have to wear masks around them), spent some time in the creepy subbasement, and even helped to identify and reclassify previously unidentified Oceanic tattooing equipment. Favorite memory in OWbN: It’s hard to say because I am making new ones all the time. Event games are always the best. Anyone who hasn’t been to either Midwinter or Grande Elysium is missing out! I highly suggest that anyone who enjoys LARP even a little should try to attend one of these events at least once. It always does a lot to rekindle my passion for the game. Plus, I get to see all the people I miss throughout the rest of the year. This past October, the Midwest area hosted its very first Palle Grande game. I played an active role in helping the STs develop the setting and atmosphere for this event. Though it was rather last minute as large scale events are concerned, I was overjoyed at how quickly the staff and decorating committee came together to create an ambiance that complimented (and dare I say, somewhat inspired) the intensive roleplay. There were many amazing costumes, and so much was going on that it was hard to keep up IC or OOC - just how I like it! -- source link
